As I crawled into bed last night, I couldn't help snickering. Soon snickering gave way to the silent but violent weezer laugh and then I was just cracking up. My wife caught on to what I was laughing at through my barely understood references (that will happen after 13 years) and we were both cracking up.
A few days earlier we were sitting in my parents living room enjoying a lazy morning. Friends were with us, mom was in the kitchen and the kids were out on the deck with grandpa as he cooked some breakfast on the griddle--bacon--yes!
My dad comes in from the deck. His face says, "I need something". He looks to my mom and begins talking.
Have you ever had something just get stuck and jumbled in your head? You can see what you want but it isn't moving through the synapses properly and everything seems to be misfiring. Well thankfully, my dad had one of these moments for all to see.
"Terrie, can you give me the... the..." You could tell he was thinking hard. In his defense, he hadn't had any coffee yet so the brain fuzz was still covering the machine.
"Can you give me the... the tweezers?"
Immediate guffaws from my wife and I. Stifled polite laughter from our friends. A big laugh from mom. Immediately head down, eyes closed and head-shaking smile from dad.
Close, but not quite. Right kind of instrument, very wrong size.
"Sure hope you're flipping the bacon with tweezers dad. Hello! How bout some tongs--might work better." We were rolling.
For whatever reason, that thought came back to my head as we settled in last night. We giggled for a while. "Its like 'honey, my eyes are really dry. Can you bring me the... the... the turkey baster?" More laughs.
And we went to sleep grateful for getaway time and great laughs with family--memory-making moments.
