Alert reader Tony D. linked me to this column in yesterday's USA Today.
The article's leading question is very provocative: Is God Silenced on College Campuses? The columnist's answer--no. He points to a strong and growing desire among co-eds to interact on Christian spiritual issues.
Dare we say, "God is always working"? Hmmm. Got to admit that I am always a little amused when I hear the God has been "shut out of" this institution or that institution. I think it gives God a laugh. The human soul is the human soul and it was created to hunger for God. Rules can't shut that out.
We've embarked on a new worship gathering at our Lincoln Park location out of the conviction that God is not silenced on the campus--that students long to seek God and that Jesus is as relevant today as He has been for the last 2000 years. We believe students just don't want faith packaged in dust, moth balls, denture cream and suited smiles. Put God in blue jeans and maybe students can hear Him.
I have to say too that I am very intrigued by the movie referred to in the column: Lord Save us From Your Followers. I watched the trailer and I want to know when it will start showing locally.
