Brian Zahnd, one of my key long-distance pastoral mentors, has a post that has tremendous weight and word-for-the-moment power. Its a must read. And it is followed by a great video on preaching. The post is adapted from Walter Brueggemann's 19 Theses. Don't miss this post. And as a bonus listen to his podcast on Sanctifying Time. I'm telling you, few pastors are speaking more valuably into the leadership needs of this moment in the Western Church.
A very thought provoking list of 19 thingies.
#14 - “The entry point into the counter-script is baptism, by which we denounce the dominant script.”
And if you REALLY want to get a breath of fresh air when you come up out of the water, I heartily recommend serving and growing someplace where the dominant script is NOT “technological therapeutic military consumerism.” You'll feel like a fish out of water for a while, but both the local script and the script of your origins will appear more stark (and stupid). Works for me anyway.
