Follow me as I repent

Monday morning as I was getting ready for the day, God convicted my heart. He put his finger and my prayer life and said, "you're prayer life is weak and that is why you've been feeling defeated and overwhelmed lately." Ummm. Ow. It hurt to hear and yet I immediately knew it was the voice of God calling me to repent (change) without delay.

Jesus showed me that I have been slipping into a coma of activity and self-dependence. There really is no worse place for a follower of Jesus to be. Prayerlessness impedes followership.

So I made some prayer decisions as I showered:

1. write out a prayer each morning--helps me focus and create a trail of grace
2. renew daily prayer with the redhead--we worked out the logistics for this last night (yes, there are logistics to praying with others)
3. erase TwitterBerry off my BlackBerry (why? because it was diverting my prayer impulse away from prayer and toward reading what others were saying--bad)
4. ask for greater sensitivity to prayer impulses coming from the Spirit.

These are initial steps of repentance but I expect more to flow as Grace comes from these steps of obedience.  Obedience-->grace-->impulse from the Spirit-->further obedience: this is the cycle of blessing for those who follow. 

Let me encourage you today: be unafraid to face and respond to what God is calling out in your life. Avoidance leaves you empty-handed and wandering. Repentance leads to life. Solus Christus.

Here's my prayer from today:

Yes Jesus--thank you that every place is sacred because you go there with me. That this cafe table is set apart and this place is a place you can use me as I study and work among people who need you. You are good and your love endures forever. Forever. Lord, make my mind and heart fit for war today--holy war. To fight against the impulses of the flesh and obey the impulses of the Spirit. Impulse my spirit to hear and obey you. Lord, as you give me impulse, let me pray directed by your Spirit. Bring people and issues to my mind that will give me communion with you.

As I'm home with my bride tonight, allow me to show her my love in a way that feeds her soul. Protect me from letting my love for her become greater than my love for You.

Fill me with faith, hope and love. I am a Christian. These are my lifeblood; my primary qualities to be exposed and released. In Jesus name, amen.

I am so thankful for technology that allows me to catch a glimpse of your heart as you follow God, even though we are so many miles away from our beloved pastor and "the redhead".
